Part of a tufting machine that pulls the primary backing and tufted carpet through the working area of the machine. It consists of a pinned driven roll that grips the cloth. The relationship of spike roll rotational speed and strokes per minute of the needle bar determines the number of stitches per inch in the tufted product.
