A condition caused by attack by micro- organisms on fibres, textiles, carpets or other materials, characterized by less of strength and integrity. Attack on carpet backings permits carpet to break and tear easily. Cellulosics such as jute are susceptible whereas polypropylene and most other synthetics are virtually immune.
