Stability is the initial issue in most residential and light commercial environments where there is no recess. These solutions are most effective when installed strategically and not accidentally.
In more demanding commercial settings, like in heavier traffic and fire-resistant applications, polyamide-based constructions like Corridor are appropriate to long-term traffic and fire-prone settings. As higher-tier commercial entrance mats, they align with projects where long-term performance expectations are higher.
The choice at this point is not based on brand or product but the magnitude of the exposure the entrance should deal with.
When Structural Integration Becomes Necessary
Where there is an increase in the volume of traffic and the frequency of wheeled movement, surface mats might not offer enough stability or cleaning depth. In such cases; aluminium entrance matting systems – provide a more integrated solution.
In contrast to loose mats, the aluminium systems are part of the entrance construction. A continuous structure is formed using the help of anodised aluminium profiles, flexible connectors, and supportive backing. Also, which is capable of supporting heavy pedestrian flow and impact.
They are effective because of their modularity. The insert combinations may be programmed to address the project requirements. Configuration is based on installation conditions. Surface-mounted aluminium systems – including KDB designs – can provide good performance even in instances where recesses were not intended, with edge profiles being used to provide smooth transition. Recessed systems like GDA systems are installed into prepared mat wells and are more likely to be used in high traffic commercial or public areas where structural depth and load capacity are important.
Both methods are adjustable though their structural aspects tend to match them with varying project intensities.
Aluminium systems are more expensive to install initially than surface mats. But they last longer and offer inserts which can be replaced to ensure longevity and predictable performance.
Designing: the Cleaning Sequence
Entrance matting; combines layers according to functions – rather than selecting a single solution.
An effective entry track can start with scraping components to eliminate grit and proceed to brush or reinforced fibre areas to further clean and culminate with carpet inserts to eliminate any remaining moisture before people step on the interior finishes.
Visual continuity is not the objective, but a gradual decrease of contaminants as movement goes inwards. Whether it is via co-ordinated surface mats / integrated aluminium systems. Also, the principle is the same – intercept early and contain effectively.
Coordinate Early, Not After
Entrance protection works best when it has been planned early in the coordination of the design.
